The Kiddies section of Wonderland, Lagos, has been shut by Lagos State Government after a fun-seeker was electrocuted at the event venue.
Media outlets reported on Monday the Director-General of the Lagos State Safety Commission, Lanre Mojola as saying the intervention became “imperative” to “prevent further exposure of attendees”, particularly kids, at the venue, which will in turn “prevent accidents that can lead to injuries and fatalities”.
Mr Mojola also disclosed that the owner of the venue, Ezekiel Adamu had refused to implement safety measures prescribed by the Commission despite several meetings at the onset of the project. There had been an “initial safety inspection exercise” carried out on the venue and focusing primarily on safety infractions observed within the facility.
“It has however become urgent and pertinent to shut down the facility until all infractions are corrected to prevent users from further exposure to risk, especially children, and to also ensure that other lined up events are safe for Lagos residents,” he explained.
“No individual or institution is bigger than the State,” he stressed, adding that the Commission will continually ensure the safety of Lagosians as they go about enjoying the festive season.
Sounding a note of warning to non-compliant owners of facilities in Lagos, Mr Majola said the Commission would no longer tolerate any failure to abide by the State Safety guidelines on events. He urged residents to “socialise responsibly”.
