Sequel to the order by the supreme court, some commercial banks in kano have commenced disbursement of old naira notes to customers.
Radio Nigeria’s correspondent who went round Kano metropolis observed that banks were filled with customers queuing outside.
Most of the banks were locked, with only those on queue allowed to enter the bank premises in batches.
At a popular commercial bank in Zaria road, Tarauni local government area, a bank security official announced to customers that the bank would only issue old naira notes over the counter, saying that the automated teller machine (ATM) was faulty.
Some of those who were fortunate to receive cash spoke to Radio Nigeria, saying that they had visited the same bank on Monday, but not a single kobo was disbursed.
They said they had gone back there on Tuesday after writing down their names on a sheet of paper, where serial numbers were given for entrance into the banking hall.
Many of the customers also told Radio Nigeria that they had to visit the bank several times before eventually receiving cash, following the Supreme Court judgment.
