A Social Impact Innovator, Comrade Orji Onyinyechi has advocated for robust technology inclusion of women in Nigeria.
Comrade Orji made the call in a virtual interview with Akwaamaka TV reporter, Alefia James on the significance of this year international women’s day celebration themed ” DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality”
“Well I will tell the government, NITDA and Ministry of Women Affairs that digital technology is the future of a better world and what we must get right to move the country forward, therefore they should put more focus in getting Nigerians, most especially Nigerian women involved in technology based endeavours”.
She added that all hands should be on deck and it should be treated with utmost importance as a matter of urgency and existential essence.
Comrade Orji noted that digital technology is solution oriented and propels national development.
“I believe with technological advancement in Nigeria a lot of solution based inventions will be made to solve the myriad of problems saving us as a people and women should be at the front burner of this movement, cause truly when you want to get things done effectively, you hand it over to women due to their vantage position and influence in the society as the covert pivot which basically directs every other person and process”
According to her, ” I am advocating that women need to get involved more and own the process, more campaigns and awareness should be raised in this regard so that more women can be co-opted into the field”.
“Well currently myself and the National Association of Anambra Female Students have been planning a technology skill acquisition program, which will involve advocacy campaigns and learning projects for young girls in Anambra State” she added.
She expressed optimism that the tech-project will be a reality before the last quarter of 2023
“We are hopefully going to partner with the media and government agencies, so far it’s been positive, so we are hopeful that through this means we can reach a great percentage of women, especially now that they are young and tell them about digital technology, it’s importance and get them involved”
