Thailand has dissolved its parliament ahead of the country’s general election in May, 2023.
Thailand is yet to fix an actual date for the election, but it must take place within 60 days of dissolution.
Campaigns have began in earnest as dozens of political parties have started selling their candidates to the people.
No election date has been announced, but two sources with knowledge of the matter earlier on Monday told Reuters the vote would take place on May 14.
The election pits the billionaire Shinawatra family and its business allies against rival parties and politicians from the royalist military and old money conservatives.
The government says, the May election will select members of parliament, who, along with the Senate, will select a prime minister by the end of July, with a cabinet named by early August.
The main opposition Pheu Thai party’s Paetongtarn Shinawatra is the frontrunner for prime minister, with her support jumping 10 points to 38% in a poll released over the weekend, more than doubling the support of her nearest rival.
