Ayra Starr's Teachers Punished Her for Painting Her Nails
Ayra Starr’s life changed when she put out her first original song in 2021, which got noticed by record executive Don Jazzy.
Not long after, she got signed to his record label Mavin Records. Turns out this move had been predicted by a teacher from her Deeper Life school when she was 14 years old, four years before she joined the label.
Starr shared this in the latest episode of Joey Akan‘s Afrobeats Intelligence podcast saying, “I have a teacher that literally inspired me. He said I was going to be signed to Mavin. It‘s crazy. I was 14 then and he said, ‘Mavin is going to sign you. Start making videos.’ He would just inspire me. He was even Muslim but he would tell me to go to church and join the choir. He was my Maths teacher.”
Since signing to the record label, Starr has accomplished several achievements including releasing her first, self-titled EP and debut album, 19 & Dangerous within the same year.
She has also gained global recognition, landing a Kelly Rowland feature on a remix of her hit song Bloody Samaritan and setting a new record as the only Nigerian Female Artist to have charted a solo song on UK Official Singles Chart.
With her continuous growing success, Starr is all set to solidify her place as one of the biggest global stars from Nigeria.
