Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the President-elect of Nigeria, embarked on a working visit to Europe on Wednesday, 19 days before his inauguration.
According to a statement released by his media aide, Tunde Rahman, Tinubu intends to use the trip to refine his transition plans and policies with key aides, free from unnecessary pressures and distractions. The President-elect also plans to meet with investors and allies to promote investment opportunities in Nigeria and his administration’s commitment to creating a business-friendly climate through policies and regulations.
During his visit, Tinubu has scheduled meetings with various business community actors in Europe, including those in manufacturing, agriculture, technology, and energy. He aims to convince them of Nigeria’s readiness to do business under his leadership through mutually-beneficial partnerships that prioritize job creation and skills acquisition.
Reviving Nigeria’s economy is a major priority for Tinubu, and this visit is part of his efforts to re-establish the country’s significance in the global economic chain and create empowering opportunities for the youth. Rahman affirmed that the President-elect has already begun talks with global actors in crucial areas of the economy and security, in line with his promise to hit the ground running.
Before departing, Tinubu met with the House of Representatives candidates for Speaker and Deputy Speaker endorsed by his party, the All Progressives Congress. He is expected to return soon to prepare for his official swearing-in as the 16th President of Nigeria on May 29, 2023.
