Radio journalists from across the country have converged on Abuja for a four-day intensive workshop.
The workshop with the theme, “what makes great radio” is organized by the US embassy in Nigeria and the Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism (WSCIJ).
The program seeks to equip radio journalists with skills to produce long form investigative radio features and in-depth news reporting.
At the opening, the Director of Broadcast and Digital Journalism at Stony Brook university New York, Steven Reiner urged radio journalists to concentrate on fairness while reporting.
Mr Reiner explained that fair reportage might not always be the basis for professionalism especially when news makers are not themselves fair in dishing out information.
“Just be balanced. Giving equal time to two sides does not necessary mean that you are been fair to the facts of the story, fair to the situation. It can be some stories you need to provide balance, time and space to one side, fairness is more of quality, balance is more of quantity ” he said
The Counselor Public Affairs, US embassy in Abuja Mr Adnan Siddigi said the aim of the training was for media professional to come together and share ideas on how to make good radio contents.
About 25 journalists from across the country are attending the 4 day training.
