The European Union (EU) delegation to Nigeria and ECOWAS is to host its first edition of the runway fashion show in Abuja.
The programme Tagged “Afro-Euro Fashion Runway”, is an effort to promote culture, heritage and tradition of Nigeria and Europe.
EU Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS Samuela Isopi at a press conference ahead of the fashion show said the EU was increasing its focus on featuring youth skills, talent and initiatives that would connect cultures, people, and innovative skills, to benefit the economy.
“We launched a competition for young designers from across the country, we gave a certain criteria and seven designers made it to the finals. So they will showcase collections that represent European and African values,” she said.
“Design may exist, creativity may exist, but if it’s not executed properly, there’s a problem. So we are trying to encourage people to do the work right so they can compete internationally,” One of the Judges, from the Fashion academy Abuja, Nina Kwande explained.
Fashion designer, Paolo Sisiano who is also one of the judges said advised the seven designers to take advantage of the platform as “Nigeria is aware of talents, all around it”.
For the Influencer and African EU campaign ambassador, Enioluwa Adeoluwa “it is important to encourage young people because when we encourage young people, we also tell others who are coming behind that they can do it as well,”
The Afro Euro runway fashion show, which will be open to the general public will see the emergence of four winners, with the overall winner participating in the Madrid Fashion week in September.
