The Legal Aid Council of Nigeria, has vowed to end right abuses by some stakeholders over the issue of third party insurance to motorists and road users.
The Director, Oscar of the Council, Mrs Latifat Salau, stated this in Abuja during a Road Show to mark the commencement and intervention on administration of third party insurance in the country’s transport sector.
Mrs Salau said the council was committed to assist third parties in areas of legal representation, insurance claims, police and medical reports as well as compensation for victims hit by uninsured vehicles.
The President of a Non Governmental Organisation, Oneworld Initiative Development, Mr Timothy Achanya advocated more sensitisation to citizens on the benefits embedded on the insurance policy and urged stakeholders to work towards bringing an end to abuses on the roads.
A Motorist, Mr Onyedikachi Iloh explained that he was up-to-date with his insurance fee but had never enjoyed its dividends.
Mr Iloh therefore stressed the need for more awareness to citizens on their right as road users.
According to the Third Party Insurance Act, 1945, The intervention on Administration of Third Party Motor Insurance and Rights Abuses on the Roads is aimed at providing financial support for road users who damage other peoples vehicle or property or when they cause bodily injury or death to third parties.
