President Mohamed Bazoum of Niger is reportedly being held inside the presidential palace in the capital city, Niamey, where the premises have been surrounded by military vehicles since Wednesday morning, according Reuters.
Access to ministries adjacent to the palace has also been obstructed, and employees within the palace have been unable to enter their offices, media reports are saying.
The rest of the State capital, Niamey is said to remain calm.
Niger faced a foiled coup attempt in March 2021, days before President Bazoum was slated to take the oath of office.
