
The Executive Secretary, National Human Right Commission Chief Anthony Ojukwu says the Protection of civilians in conflict from violence and human rights violations remains a sacred duty of not only government but also non-state actors.
Chief Ojukwu stated this at an event to mark the 20th anniversary of the Centre for Civilians in Conflict in Abuja.
He explained that commission remained committed to the protection civilians who have suffered harm perpetrated by non-state actors.
The Director of Centre for Civilian in Conflicts, Dr Benson Olugbuo called for closer communication and consultation with communities in conflict to build trust and develop synergies.
Also speaking The Chief of Army Staff represented by Air Commodore AO Akinsanya noted that the right approach to the protection of civilians was at the core of Army law.
A Representative from the EU office in Dakar, Borgie Luiyi said dealing with crisis prevention in West Africa should be a top priority for all.
The Federal Executive Council adopted the National Action Plan for the Promotion and Protection of human rights and coordinated by the Human Rights Commission.
