
Former US President Donald Trump has been accused of attempting to rig Georgia’s 2020 presidential election in order to reverse his defeat there.
Trump and 18 other associates were charged with the allegations of election meddling by Georgia prosecutor Fani Willis
According to BBC, Prosecutors listed 41 charges in a 98 page indictment which was made public late on Monday.
Fani Willis started the probation in February 2021focusing on Georgia the battle groun for US presidency.
Trump who is the leading Republican candidate for president in 2024 has denied all 13 charges against him and claimed that they are all politically motivated.
This is the fourth criminal charges he is facing in a period of months.
Willis announced that the 19 defendants have until Friday 25 August to voluntarily surrender, as she plans to try all 19 together.
Co-conspirators includes former Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani, former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows and former White House lawyer John Eastman, former justice department official, Jeffrey Clark, amongst others Sidney Powell and Jenna Ellis the two Trump lawyers who amplified unfounded claims of widespread voter fraud,BBC reports.
The indictment accused them on various felony counts which include Violating Georgia’s racketeering act, Solicitation of violation of oath by public officer, Impersonation of a public officer, forgery, False statements and writings, influencing witnesses, computer trespass, theft and perjury.
The most serious charge, Violation of the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO Act), carries a punishable 20-year jail sentence.
Trump is the first former president in US history to face criminal charges.
