
Amid the hardship currently facing Nigerians as result of the fuel subsidy removal, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume has urged the people to exercise patience as there will be light at the end of the tunnel.
Senator George Akume reiterated the plea while unveiling a 688-paged book entitled “Brutally Frank”, an autobiography of Chief Edwin Clark, an elder statesman in Abuja.
He represented President Bola Tinubu at the book launch on Thursday.
Senator George Akume, said that the solution to Nigeria’s problem could not be achieved in a hurry, hence the need for more understanding.
“What the country is going through is like the pains of birth, but after it comes celebrations added that at the end of the sufferings today, tomorrow will be better”, he said.
The SGF expressed optimism that the palliatives to Nigerians by the Government would help in ameliorating the hardship.
“We should endure this for a moment, what we are going through today is for a better tomorrow, Nations are great because citizens have hope, they have hope that tomorrow will be better than today”, the SGF appealed.
He described the elder statesman, Chief Edwin Clark as a the Iroko of the South-South and the Eagle of Nigeria.
“Let me say, Chief E. K. Clark, the president respects your person, he recognizes the fact that you are part of the Nigerian legend. You are the Iroko of the South-South, the Eagle of the nation. And you believe in the unity of this country. And it has been demonstrated in your book personally written by you,” he stated.
The Chairman of the occasion and former Head of State, Retired General Yakubu Gowon, lauded Chief Clark for his confidence as a dogged and fearless defender of the government when he served in his administration as Federal Commissioner for Information.
On the book, the former Head of State said “it is a very useful chronicle of what had transpired in Nigeria during Clark’s lifetime of service.
”I am hopeful that the younger generations will be better informed on our experiences which has brought the country to what it is today, on which our President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu represents the centre of our common aspirations of peace, unity and progress,” he stated.
In his keynote address, the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio represented by the Minister of Works Designate, Mr Dave Umahi urged leaders to emulate the South South leader for his devotion towards social justice which has distinguished him amongst others.
