
Tech Experts have called on Journalists and media practitioners to prioritize encryption and privacy issues in their day-to-day activities to enable them to protect the confidentiality of their information and sources.

They made a call in a hybrid workshop organised by Human Rights Journalists Network Nigeria in partnership with Access Now, CCHUB, and other partners Encryption to commemorate the Global encryption Day in Lagos.

The Workshop tagged Journalism and Surveillance: Maintaining Confidentiality using End-to-End Encryption (E2EE) Open Source Tools, held In Yaba, Lagos on Saturday attracted professionals in the tech sector, journalists, media practitioners and human rights Activists across Africa and other parts of the world.
Speaking during the workshop, Executive Director, Human Rights Journalists Network Nigeria (HRJN), Kehinde Adegboyega, Called on journalists and media practitioners to at all times put first encryption and digital privacy to protect their professional ethics in today’s cyber-threatened society.
Others who spoke at the workshop include Musa Sani, Cyber Threat Intelligence Analyst at Co-creation Hub (CcHUB), Wuraola Taiwo, Project Manager, Digital Security at Co-Creation Hub (CcHUB), Israel Olatunji Tijani, Digital Security Manager, at Human Rights Journalists Network Nigeria (HRJN), Rand Hammoud, Surveillance Campaigner at Access Now, Bridget Andere, Senior Policy Analyst at Access Now and Blessing Oladunjoye also enlightened media practitioners, journalists and tech enthusiasts on fundamentals of Digital Security, legal and ethical issues around Digital encryption, cipher texting and pretty good privacy tools for journalists.
