Parliamentary workers in Nasarawa State have shut down the State House of Assembly following a peaceful protest over non-implementation of financial autonomy to the legislative arm of the government.
State Chairman of Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria, Comrade Suleiman Oshafu in an interview in Lafia said the decision to shut down the State House of Assembly complex was in compliance with the nationwide indefinite strike declared by the national body of the association.
He stated that the complex would remain closed until the state governor commences full implementation of the financial independence of the legislative arm of the government.
Comrade Oshafu noted that parliamentary workers in the State House of Assembly have been going through difficult times including poor welfare due to lack of financial independence.
The union leader called on the parliamentary workers to be steadfast, peaceful and committed to the course to ensure better working conditions.
At the time of filing this report security personnel were drafted to the assembly complex to curtail any possible breakdown of law and order.
