The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) and the Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD) have refuted claims circulating about a potential nationwide strike.
In a statement on Monday, Olawale Afolabi, NUPENG’s General Secretary, dismissed these reports as deliberate attempts to incite fear among the public.
Speculation arose over the weekend, particularly in parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), as residents queued for fuel.
Afolabi strongly rebuffed the rumours, attributing them to “desperate individuals” seeking to create panic and fabricate an artificial fuel scarcity.
He emphasised the dedication of petroleum tanker drivers to ensuring smooth distribution across the country.
Augustine Egbon, PTD’s National Chair, echoed Afolabi’s sentiments, reinforcing their refusal to engage in any form of protest.
Egbon urged security agencies to arrest those responsible for disseminating false information aimed at disrupting the nation’s petroleum distribution system.
