Delta State Transport Commissioner, Mr. Onoriode Agofure has reaffirmed the importance of Cooperation, forbearance and adequate Communication in making our roads free from accidents and other encumbrances.
Agofure made the remark when the new Sector Commandant of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Delta State Command, Commander Frederick Ogidan paid him a working visit in his office with a view to establishing a symbiotic relationship with the Ministry of Transport.
The Transport Commissioner stated that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori was committed to ensuring that road crashes in the state were reduced to the barest minimum, as is evidenced in the support the state government has continued to give to the Delta State Traffic Management Agency, DESTMA, and the Vehicle Inspection Office, VIO, personnel across the state.
The Commissioner added that Traffic lights were being maintained regularly, as well as road infrastructure, Lane markings and other road signs, to address issues concerning road mishaps.
Agofure disclosed that Drivers in the State Civil Service were given yearly training in areas of eye test,practical training, as well as vehicle maintenance in an emergency situation.
He assured the sector Commander of a robust and a rewarding synergy between them.
Earlier, Mr. Ogidan thanked the Commissioner for the warm reception and discussed areas of mutual cooperation in order to have a seamless operation in the state.
Ogidan described the Asaba/ Onitsha Expressway after the Koka Flyover bridge as a nightmare, adding that he had visited the Federal Ministry of works and the Federal Emergency Repairs and Maintenance Agency,FERMA, stressing that there was hope that the road would be fixed in a short while.
