
Residents in Delta State have been advised to avoid incidence of fire outbreaks and anything that could lead to other forms of disaster in the state.
The Commissioner, Delta State Bureau for Special Duties, Mr. Ejiro Etacherure gave the advice while presenting food items to victims of the fire outbreak at the Hausa market stalls close to the Customs checkpoint on the Asaba-Benin Expressway in Asaba, Delta State.
At the brief ceremony, the commissioner commended the Federal Government led by President Bola Tinubu for supporting the state government in the provision of food items such as rice, gari, oil and tomato paste to alleviate the sufferings of the fire disaster victims in the state.
Recall that a few months ago, the Hausa market along the Asaba-Benin Expressway, close to the Customs checkpoint, was gutted by fire and about 1,200 stalls were affected. Consequently, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), in collaboration with the Delta State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), carried out an on-the-spot assessment visit to the market to ascertain the extent of the damage.
Led by the commissioner, Bureau for Special Duties, Hon. Ejiro Etacherure and his team, the victims were advised to remain calm and to avoid anything that could cause a recurrence.
In their separate remarks, the Special Assistant to Governor Oborevwori on Youth Mobilization, Mr. Yesuf Musa expressed his appreciation to the Federal and Delta State Governments for their magnanimity in providing palliatives for those affected by disaster in the state especially now that hunger is ravaging the country.
On his part, Mr. Karo Ovemeso, who is the director of SEMA, Delta State, advised the beneficiaries not to sell the food items given to them, as a way of showing appreciation to the Government
The highlight of the ceremony was the official presentation of the items to the beneficiaries by theCommissioner and the Permanent Secretary, Bureau for Special Duties, Mr. Ejiro Etacherure and Prince Gregory Ejohwomu respectively.
