The Delta State Government has officially flagged-off the Project 10 million Delta Campaign, a transformative health initiative mandated by the Federal Ministry of Health and driven by the Commissioners for Health Forum with the theme “KNOW YOUR NUMBERS; CONTROL YOUR NUMBERS.”
The Secretary to the Delta State Government, Dr. Kingsley Emu who flagged off the campaign today in Asaba on behalf of the State Government said the exercise is a call to action, a commitment to the health of Deltans and also a testament to the power of awareness in controlling and preventing diseases.
“This campaign reflects a national commitment to combating hypertension and diabetes, two of the most common non-communicable diseases we face in Nigeria today. Over the coming week, our collective efforts will aim to screen 10 million Nigerians across the country for these diseases.
He stated that the leadership of the Ministry of Health has been mandated to screen a target of 300,000 individuals for Hypertension and Diabetes between October 28 and November 3, 2024.
Dr. Emu added that the exercise not only speaks to the urgency of the issue but also reflects the government’s resolve to increase awareness, improve care, and gather essential data for long-term planning and intervention.
According to the SSG, the flag-off marked the beginning of an intensive and inclusive campaign as screening sites were established in various locations across the State, including health facilities, markets, correctional facilities, religious centers, higher institutions, and even here within the SSG Complex.
“This expansive approach ensures that every community is reached, and that no one is left behind in our mission to foster a healthier Delta State. We have called on each of our health facilities to support this effort by designating screening points and mobilizing personnel to make screening services readily accessible to everyone aged 18 years and above. I am confident that together we can meet this target, create a robust database on Hypertension and Diabetes, and use this information to strengthen disease control programs that serve all Deltans,” Dr. Emu explained.
Highlight of the flag off was the screening for Hypertension and Diabetes carried on the SSG.
