
The Delta State House of Assembly, on Tuesday,passed the Delta State Special Offences (Amendment) Bill into Law.
The bill, if signed into law, will be useful in trying all offences anticipated under the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Law, 2020, offences under the Child Rights Law, 2008 and creation of special Offences court law.
House Majority Leader, Hon Engr Emeka Nwaobimoved the motion for the passage of the bill, whileHon. Spencer Ohwofa, Member Representing Ughelli North 2 State Constituency, seconded the motion.
Reacting after the passage of the bill, SpeakerEmomotimi Guwor commended the lawmakers fortheir painstaking scrutiny of the bill, clause by clause,and ensuring its swift passage.
Guwor said that the passage of the bill is a clear demonstration that Delta State has zero tolerance for gender-based violence and child abuse.
