
The Deputy Governor of Delta State, Sir Monday Onyeme, FCA, was Monday, presented with an award of Excellence in Public Service and Philanthropy.
The award was presented to him by the Chairman and management of the Pointer Newspaper as part of activities to mark the 30th anniversary of the newspaper.
While receiving the award in Asaba, Onyemecommended the management of the Pointer Newspaper for its resilience, as well as prompt and effective information dissemination in the state.
According to him, “I want to thank you for this presentation; your establishment, The Pointer Newspaper, is doing a great job in the area of information dissemination in the state.
“The Pointer Newspaper has been tested and it has survived the test of time. It has spent more than 25 years in the business.
‘It is not every business organization that survives for such a number of years, especially in the media.
“So, I want to commend every one of you because without your resilience, your efforts, your contribution,the organization will not have survived.
“I want to specially commend your Chairman, Olorogun Dr. Ebenezer Okorodudu because since his appointment, we have seen a great level of transformation and improvement.
“It shows that you have brought in your own knowledge to gear up the organization to what it is today.’
The deputy governor prayed that the Pointer Newspaper would become the best and highest selling newspaper in the country.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Board, Olorogun Dr Ebenezer Okorodudu, while presenting the Award, said that it was for the deputy governor’s excellent performance in politics and in the business world.
He described Onyeme as a philanthropist, a gift to Deltans and humanity, recognizing his scholarship scheme as extraordinary.
“Your performance has been extraordinary and outstanding. Before you became the Deputy Governor of Delta State, your name has been a household name because of your scholarship scheme which has benefited many people in Delta State.
“I want to present this Award of Excellent Performance in Public Service and Philanthropy to you for your contribution to the development of humanity. It is not just only the award but there are prayers attached to it,” Okorodudu said.
The acting General Manager of the Pointer Newspaper, Mr. Godfrey Ubaka, the Editor-in-Chief, Mr. Patrick Nwanze, the Daily Editor, Mrs. Edna Emeni, the Sunday Editor, Mrs. Roseline Nwaebuni and other management staff were present during the presentation.
