…Foil attack, arrest 2 with AK-47 rifles in Taraba

GUSAU— Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation Fansan Yamma (OPFY), yesterday, neutralised two bandits and recovered weapons in an operation at Bambaran village, Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara.
This is contained in a statementin Gusau by the Coordinator Joint Media Coordination Centre, Lt. Col. Abubakar Abdullahi.
Abdullahi said that the operation was carried out by the Forward Military Operations Base in Anka area in collaboration with Zamfara Community Protection Guard (ZSCPG) and local vigilantes.
“As a result, two terrorists were neutralised while items recovered from the terrorists include a PKT machine gun, one AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and 3 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.
“This successful operation underscores the collaborative efforts between the military and other security forces in the Operation Fansan Yamma Theatre of Operations towards ensuring safety within Zamfara State and the North West Zone at large.
“Operation Fansan Yamma remains dedicated to eliminating threats to peace and stability in the North West, we are striving to protect the lives and property of residents as operations continue,” the statement added.
Taraba’s foiled attack
Meanwhile, the Army yesterday said troops of 6 Brigade Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, OPWS, in Tuesday successfully thwarted a planned banditry attack within the Southern part of Taraba State.
According to the Army “Upon receiving intelligence, troops on December 11, 2024, launched a series of aggressive patrols, ambushes, and covert operations to prevent the attack.
“These efforts culminated in the apprehension of two suspected terrorists, identified as Terry Waapara and Tobaya Tekura, in Adu village.
“The suspects were intercepted while attempting to infiltrate the Chachanji market to carry out their nefarious mission, believed to include kidnapping and other criminal activities.
“During the operation, troops recovered two AK-47 rifles, two AK-47 magazines and 26 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.
“The suspects are currently in custody and undergoing further investigation to uncover more details about their network and activities.
“The Commander 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commends the troops for their vigilance, professionalism, and swift response, which led to this success.
“He assures the good people of Taraba State that the Nigerian Army will remain resolute in its fight against terrorism, banditry, and other forms of criminality.
“He appreciated the support and cooperation of law-abiding citizens in providing timely and credible information. “Together, we will continue to work towards a safer and more secured.
