As part of measures to achieve its vision of a malaria-free community, the Delta State government has taken delivery of office equipment donated by the Global Fund to the State Malaria Programme saddled with the responsibility of the eradication of the scourge of Malaria.
The Delta State Commissioner for Health Dr. Joseph Onojaeme today, received the donated items on behalf of the State during the handing over of the items in Asaba.
The Commissioner, represented by the State Epidemiologist, Dr. Mildred Okowa at the handing over, expressed gratitude to Global Funds for their generous donation of office equipment to the Malaria Unit in the Public Health Department and said that the support aligns with the State’s commitment to eradicating Malaria and strengthening the healthcare system in Delta State.
“The provision of this equipment will significantly boost the capacity of our Malaria Unit to carry out surveillance, research, and intervention programmes. It is a welcome development that aligns with our vision of a Malaria-free Delta State.
Emphasizing the importance of partnerships in achieving sustainable health outcomes, Dr. Onojaemedisclosed that Delta State remains committed to leveraging such collaborations to strengthen healthcare delivery and reduce the Malaria burden in communities.
According to the Commissioner, the donation came at a critical time as the State ramps up efforts to address Malaria prevalence through proactive interventions, including the distribution of insecticide-treated nets, public awareness campaigns, and the training of healthcare workers.
Dr. Onojaeme assured Global Funds and other stakeholders that the equipment would be judiciously used to advance the fight against Malaria and improve the overall health of Deltans.
In his address, the representative of Management Sciences for Health, Raymond Emeto, a Supply Chain Management System Specialist disclosed that the donation, which includes state-of-the-art office equipment such as computers, printers, tables, chairs, and filing cabinets, was aimed at enhancing the operational efficiency of the Malaria Unit. He also disclosed that earlier in the year, a Toyota Hilux vehicle was donated to the State to enhance the Programme activities.
According to him “this gesture underscores Global Funds’ dedication to combating Malaria and supporting public health initiatives globally.
Management Sciences for Health is a sub-recipient to Catholic Relief Services, and has been actively involved in executing Malaria services under the Global Fund Malaria Grant for the 2024–2026 period.
The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria has been instrumental in combating Malaria in Nigeria, collaborating with organizations like Management Sciences for Health (MSH) to implement effective interventions.
