The Deputy Governor of Delta State, Sir Monday Onyeme, FCA, has stated the commitment of the Oborevwori administration to partner private organizations that are genuinely interested in making meaningful contributions to the development of the state.
Onyeme made the remarks on Thursday while meeting with the management of Mecco and Marine Holdings Nig LTD in his office at government house, Asaba.
The Deputy Governor said when private organizations contribute to the development of communities, there would be peace, which would also reduce the developmental burden on the state government.
Onyeme said, “We are happy to have you here today. The Oborevwori administration is willing to give all the necessary support for you to be able to carry out your assignment. Because, from all indications it is us that are the primary beneficiaries of your assignment.
“If, through your work, all the host communities to all the oil companies operating within the state get rightly what is due to them, of course, you would have helped the communities, you would have also helped the state.
“When the communities are at peace; when the communities are getting projects that bring about the development of the communities, of course, it is reducing the developmental burden on the state.
“This will bring the desired peace in the state. So, everything you are going to do concerning your assignment, the government will give you the necessary support because it is for our own interest.
“However, as a government, we urge you to go ahead and start this work in earnest and let us know what you want to accomplish so that we can follow up. You should also give us documentation as to what you are doing before we come in,” Onyeme stated.
Earlier, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Mecco and Marine Holdings Nig LTD, Chief George Bucknor said the visit was informed by the need to support the host communities producing oil and gas and also to enhance the sustainable development of the state regarding their usurped rights and benefits.
Chief Bucknor said the mission of Mecco and Marine Holdings Nig LTD is to ensure that Host communities enjoy direct social and economic benefits of petroleum operations, ensuring effective implementation of the submission of the Need Assessment Plan within the timelines prescribed for the same in the applicable laws.
