The Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor has assured Deltans of a robust 2025 legislation from the State Lawmakers.
The Speaker gave the assurance in his welcome address to Lawmakers at the resumption of plenary after the festive holidays.
Guwor, in his address, said that the Legislature and Executive arms of government are democratic vehicles in the society for appropriation, mobilisation and deployment of resources for development, welfare and security of the people.
The Speaker emphasized that the house ended the 2024 Legislative business on a very high note with the timely passage of the 2025 Appropriation Bill which is already assented to by the State Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori.
While reeling out some notable achievements of the house in the previous year, Rt. Hon. Guwor disclosed that five other bills passed by the Lawmakers were also assented to by Governor Oborevwori. The bills included the University of Science and Technology, Ozoro Amendment Law 2024; Delta State Structures and Signage and Advertisement Agency, 2024; Delta State Human Trafficking prohibition Law 2024; Special Offences Court Amendment Law 2024 and the Delta State Protection of Persons with Disability Law,2024.
The Speaker, while commending Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for embarking on inspection of ongoing projects in the State, said the house would ensure that government expenditures get value for money.
He urged all standing committees of the house to oversight government spending priorities through collaboration with the Executive arm.
Appreciating Lawmakers for their cooperation for the leadership of the house, the Speaker also commended the management and Staff of the State assembly as well as the media and called for more cooperation and collaboration.
Rt. Hon. Guwor who commiserated with the families of those who lost their lives in the January 5 2025 tanker explosion in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area, enjoined the house to observe a minute of silence in honour of the departed souls and prayed God to grant the families the fortitude to bear the loss.
