Delta State Government has said it would work in collaboration with Nigeria Midstream and Downstream Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) to ensure that standards are sustained in the Oil and Gas Sector for effective and efficient service delivery in the country.
The State Commissioner for Oil and Gas, Hon. Peter Uviejitobor disclosed this, Wednesday, during a meeting with the representatives of the NMDPRA team led by the State Coordinator, Engr. Victor Owhodiasa in his office in Asaba, the state’s capital.
Uviejitobor noted that the state government coordinates the application process for spatial location of Filling Stations, LPG Plants, Oil Terminals and related businesses in the state, leading to the grant of consent by the Governor before applications are transmitted NMDPRA for approval to construct.
He said the ministry organises yearly sensitisation and training sessions for LPG retail outlets with resource persons from NMDPRA to educate them on the safety measures and damages of selling LPG in residential areas.
Uviejitobor urged LPG retailers operating in the state and domestic gas users to adhere to the safety measures to avoid gas explosion in the state.
“The unfortunate gas explosion in Agbor where lives were lost has heightened safety awareness in the state, he added.
Responding, the State Coordinator NMDPRA, Engr. Victor Owhodiasa assured the state government of their support to coordinate the activities of LPG retailers to ensure the safety of Deltans and property in the state.
Owhofasa emphasized on the need for NMDPRA to synergize with all critical stakeholders to maintain and protect oil and gas industry in the country.
He advised LPG retailers adhere to rules and regulations of the NMDPRA to reduce gas explosion in the state
