The Commissioner for Primary Education, Dr Kingsley Ashibogwu has stated that Delta state government,through the ministry had intervened and renovated over 200 primary schools and 1200 classrooms since the inception of the present administration.
The Commissioner stated this recently during a live broadcast aired on Delta Broadcasting Service, Asaba in its morning ride programme, which was centred on harnessing Primary Education in Delta State.
According to Dr. Ashibogwu, the state government has invested a lot of resources in infrastructures and human capital development in the state.
Ashibogwu mentioned that the present administration has intervened in over six schools in each of the 25 LGAs of the state.
The Commissioner stated that the harnessing of education in the state had produced effective and efficient results in terms of development, inequality, technology, mathematics, and engineering.
Ashibogwu mentioned poor sensitization and vandalization as core challenges to the educational development of primary schools but mentioned regular meetings with stakeholders as solution so far.
He used the medium to emphasize that primary education in Delta is free and remained free as he warned school heads to learn from those that hadtowed the line of extortion of parents.
Speaking on corporal punishment, Dr Ashibogwustated that it was not encouraged by the present administration but pleaded with parents to nurture their children to avoid such occasions.
“When we talk of development today, what comes to people’s mind is infrastructures only, and on that I can boldly say that the state government, through the ministry, has intervened and renovated over 200 schools and 1200 classrooms in collaboration with SUBEB and UBEB.
“And on human capital development, there has been training and retraining of teachers so as to integrate them with what is obtainable in other states,“Ashibogwu said.
He stressed the need for host communities to help secure school facilities in their domain to complement the efforts of the government.
