
The Delta State Commissioner for health, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme has called on all Deltans to take advantage of the ongoing free lymphatic filariasis related Hydrocele surgeries (enlarged scrotum) and the management of enlarged limbs (Elephantiasis) being carried out by the Delta State Primary Health Care Development Agency, DSPHCDA, with support from the Carter Foundation.
The commissioner gave this charge when he played host to the Executive Director of The DSPHCDA and his team, together with the team from the Carter Center in his office in Asaba.
According to the Health commissioner, “This is a laudable initiative by The Carter Center which is aimed at alleviating the sufferings of all males with Hydrocele issues and also every one with enlarged limbs (Elephantiasis) related issues “
“I want to thank you once again for this support to Deltans aimed at alleviating the sufferings of all sufferers. We will give you all the support required to make sure it gets good success.”
While commending the Carter Center for this laudable venture, the functioning Executive Director of The DSPHCDA Dr. Paul Yinkore enjoined all Deltans with such issues to go to the nearest Primary health centers for free registration and subsequent surgeries before the end of March 2025.
Earlier, the Director Edo/Delta integrated health programs of the Carter Center, Dr. Emmanuel Emuka, while appreciating the commissioner for health for all the support so far, intimated him that two persons had so far been successfully operated upon and discharged. He further stated that the patients were doing very well after the surgery.
Dr Emuka further hinted to the health commissioner that they hope to perform surgeries for up to a hundred persons.
Highlight of the visit was presentation of a document distinguishing Hydrocele from Hernia to the Commissioner for health which was preceeded with a group photograph.
