
The Chief of Delta State, Justice Tessy Diai, has concluded the 1st quarter custodial centres visit to the 5 correctional centres in the State. They are the Warri Custodial centre, Sapele Custodial Centre and Remand home Sapele, kwale custodial centre, Agbor custodial centre and Ogwashi uku custodial centre.
A total of 1228 awaiting trial warrants were reviewed, that is, 336 warrants in Warri, 138 warrants in Sapele, 10 warrants at the Remand Home, 181 warrants in Kwale, 135 warrants in Agbor and 428 warrants in Ogwashi uku.
Seven inmates were released on the advice of the Director of Public Prosecution, DPP, on account that they had no case to answer. One inmate in warri, One inmate in kwale and five inmates in Ogwashi uku.
The visits started on the 10th of March, 2025 in Warri and ended on the 21st of March with the Ogwashi uku custodial centre. The purpose of the visit is to ensure that custody cases are going on smoothly in courts.
The elated Chief Judge appreciated everyone who participated in the exercise including the Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice, Mr. Omamuzo Erebe and the Director of Public Prosecution and his team for their diligence and hard work which translated into faster and smoother dispensation of Justice in the state.
