In a major breakthrough against criminal activities, operatives of the Delta State Police Command’s Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT) have arrested several suspected kidnappers and armed robbers, recovering a cache of firearms and ammunition in coordinated operations across multiple states.
According to the statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the operatives, led by ASP Julius Robinson, trailed a notorious kidnap suspect, Chedeye Mohammed, to Rivers State on March 26, 2025. After an extensive manhunt, the suspect was apprehended at about 6:20 p.m. and, upon interrogation, led police to a bush behind a trailer park, where an AK-47 rifle loaded with thirteen rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition was recovered.
“Preliminary investigations reveal that the suspect and his gang have been terrorizing areas including Ughelli and Agbarho, before seeking refuge in Rivers State,” police sources confirmed. “Efforts are ongoing to apprehend his accomplices.”
In a separate operation, acting on credible intelligence, the CP-SAT launched a sting operation in Anyangba town, Kogi State, leading to the arrest of three suspects—Zakari Mohammed (31), Ibrahim Mumuni (29), and Mohammed Hamisu (25)—all residents of Dekina Local Government Area. A search of their residences yielded another AK-47 rifle, an automatic pump-action gun, and ammunition. Further investigations led to the arrest of a fourth suspect, Samaila Mohammed (35), in Udu community, where a Beretta pistol loaded with three rounds of live ammunition and cartridges was recovered.
In yet another crackdown on illegal arms dealings, the operatives arrested 35-year-old Emu Lucky in Olomoro community, Isoko South LGA, on March 25. A search of his premises uncovered 82 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition. Investigations revealed that he was allegedly supplying ammunition to a notorious kidnapper, Mohammed Bellow, who is already in police custody.
Commending the operatives for their success, the Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, assured residents that the command remains steadfast in ensuring security across the state.
“This momentum will be sustained,” he pledged. “The mandate given to me by the Inspector General of Police is clear—to ensure that all Deltans and residents sleep with both eyes closed. We urge the public to continue supporting law enforcement efforts.”
The police command has reaffirmed its commitment to dismantling criminal networks in Delta State and beyond, soliciting cooperation from residents to provide timely and credible intelligence that will aid in securing lives and property.
