The Delta State Government has conducted the final stage of the 2024 science competition and exhibition for primary school pupils, junior and senior secondary school students’ categories for participants in the three senatorial districts.
Participants who came topmost after the zonal competition that was conducted across the state, were assessed in both written tests for the science competition and exhibition of their projects.
To encourage learners from the grassroots in the science subjects, pupils in primary 5 were tested in mathematics in the final stage.
Speaking during the event, the Director of Science Education in Ministries of Primary and Secondary Education, Mrs. Hope Igumbor said that at the end of the day, the best three from each of the categories would be selected for the presentation of awards of prizes at a later date.
Igumbor, who commended the state government for the gesture, stated that the Ministries of Primary and Secondary Education decided to get technical experts to help assess the participants’ projects so that the best three in all the categories would be selected and recommended to Ministries of Primary and Secondary Education for award of prizes.
She told participants to put in their very best, reminding them that there was always a reward for hard work.
Earlier, a team of assessors, led by Comr. Emmanuel Osakwe, said that they considered four criteria for assessing the projects.
According to Osakwe, the four criteria included the creativity and originality of the projects, the meaningfulness of the projects to ascertain the scientific concept and the project’s principles, the functionality of the projects and the societal need of the projects.
