The Delta State Government has called on the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) to take metering very seriously to enable them to put an end to estimated billing.
The Commissioner for Energy, Hon. Sunday Tatabuzogwu, made the call when the Regional Head of BEDC, Asaba, and his team paid him a familiarization visit in his office.
The Commissioner urged them (BEDC) not to focus only on Band A when providing meters but to spread more of their meters among Band B, C, and D
He explained that this would provide stability in electricity consumption of the small-scale industries and would enable them to calculate their expenses.
Tatabuzogwu implored BEDC to appreciate the State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, who, in line with the MORE Agenda, keeps approving the installation of electrical infrastructure in every part of the state.
While urging them to always hook up transformers provided by both state and individuals, the commissioner said vandals take the opportunity to vandalize electricity infrastructure not energized.
The commissioner acknowledged Delta State as the future biggest electricity market in the country, adding that investors were ready to make Delta their business place.
He encouraged BEDC to always synergize with the Ministry of Energy to avoid communication gaps and hiccups in electricity projects done in the state.
In his remark, the Regional Head, BEDC Asaba, Mr. Gboyega Agunlejiga thanked the commissioner for his warm reception and promised to work in synergy with the Ministry of Energy, acknowledging that BEDC was under the regulations of the Delta State Electricity Law.
“We won’t be far from you henceforth,” he said.
Present during the visit was the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Felicia Rone-Orugbo, the director of Electricity Power Supply, Mr. Stanley Efenudu and other members of staff of the ministry.
