
The Delta CARES program, under the Labour-Intensive Public Workfare (LIPW) unit implemented by the Delta State Government, with support from the World Bank, has made significant impact on beneficiaries in Illah and Ebu communities, Oshimili North Local Government Area.
The Labour-Intensive Public Workfare (LIPW) unit of the program provided monthly stipends to beneficiaries for 12 months, resulting in improved livelihoods and economic stability.
Some beneficiaries gave their testimonies when staff of the LIPW Unit came for the end-of-program activities in both communities.
One of them, Mr. Nonso Iwegebo, said, “I was completely paid monthly for 12 months, and my family is benefiting from it. I used my ₦15,000 monthly stipend to cultivate my cassava farm, which has increased my steady income.”
Another beneficiary, Blessing Oseni, speaking in pidgin, reported, “I dey thank Delta Cares because of this money wen dem dey give us every month. The money dey help us well well… I put the money for my business and I dey enjoy the gain.”
Some beneficiaries said they used the stipends to invest in their businesses or farms, increasing their income and economic stability and meeting their families’ needs, including food, education, and healthcare.
Others disclosed that they used the stipends to invest in other businesses, diversifying their income streams and improving their economic prospects.
Many of the beneficiaries from both communities expressed gratitude to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for initiating the Delta CARES program, which they said has made a significant difference in their lives by improving their livelihoods and those of their families.
