
A member of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria in Ogwashi-Uku, Delta State, identified as Ike Peter, has been arrested by the police for allegedly shooting and killing a 29-year-old student of Ogwashi-Uku Polytechnic, Peter Eyorowalebo.
The tragic incident occurred on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, around 9:30 a.m. while the victim was reportedly studying in his room in preparation for an examination. According to the Delta State Police Command, the suspect allegedly stormed into the victim’s residence and fatally shot him.
Spokesperson for the Command, SP Bright Edafe, in a statement issued on Wednesday, said the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Ogwashi-Uku received a distress call and promptly mobilized officers to the scene.
“Upon arrival, the victim was found in a pool of his own blood,” the statement said. “He was immediately rushed to the hospital, where he was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty. His remains have been deposited in the mortuary for autopsy.”
Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, ordered the immediate arrest of the suspect and his transfer to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough investigation.
“The CP has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the SCID to take over the case and ensure a discreet and comprehensive investigation,” the police statement added.
While expressing deep sorrow over the unfortunate death of the student, CP Abaniwonda commiserated with the victim’s family and the student community of Ogwashi-Uku Polytechnic.
“I urge everyone to remain calm as we will leave no stone unturned in our quest for justice. The Command is committed to ensuring that the full weight of the law is brought to bear on anyone found culpable,” CP Abaniwonda stated.
The police have assured the public that the matter will be handled with the utmost professionalism and transparency, promising updates as the investigation progresses.
