Delta State can proudly be described as a construction state with a lot of evidence speaking for itself
The Commissioner for Special Duties, Hon. Ejiro Etacherure, said this today during his appearance on ‘Morning Ride’ at Delta Broadcasting Service Television, Asaba, while discussing how the Bureau was delivering on the state government’s MORE Agenda.
Hon. Etacherure said the importance of the MORE Agenda, which focuses on all-round promotion of sustainable development and empowerment programs in the State, has seen the Bureau for Special Duties involved in disaster response, management and recovery efforts, as well as attending to the plight of victims under its jurisdiction.
Etacherure said the Bureau had been actively involved in disaster management and relief efforts, providing support and assistance to victims and communities affected by natural disasters such as flooding and fire outbreaks, stating that relief materials distributed to beneficiaries have been monitored by the local government representatives
The Commissioner also outlined some of the key projects and programs that the Governor Sheriff Oborevwori government was currently working on to drive the MORE Agenda forward. These include initiatives to improve healthcare services, upgrade schools and educational facilities, enhance infrastructure, and promote job creation and economic development among programmes aimed at making life more meaningful for the people.
Etacherure said recently, relief materials were given to the victims of the January 5th, 2025 Agbor fuel tanker explosion, and distribution of relief assistance materials of the 2024 flood victims across the affected local government areas stating that the distribution took place at the State Emergency Management Agency SEMA warehouse.
He also noted that recently the State fire service was able to avert what would have resulted in loss of lives and properties due to a fallen fuel tanker conveying forty-five thousand liters of fuel enroute Taraba from Lagos along the busy Asaba Benin Expressway, but with swift response of the fire service was able to respond quickly to avert a possible disaster.
He asserted that the Bureau was also doing well in the area of managing pilgrimage to the holy lands of Israel and Mecca by Deltans, stating that the State government sponsors at least two hundred and seventy pilgrims each year
The Commissioner emphasized the commitment of the Bureau for Special Duties to supporting Governor Oborevwori’s vision for a better Delta State, while he encouraged residents to engage with the government, provide feedback, and contribute to the success of the MORE Agenda.
Reacting to why the Ministry was involved in a lot of activities but not in the public space, Mr. Etacherure said it was a ‘glitch’ in communication, reiterating that publicity would be given priority going forward.
The interview concluded with a call to action for all stakeholders to work together towards achieving the shared goal of a more prosperous and inclusive Delta State.
