As Muslims in Delta State prepare to celebrate the 2025 Eid-el-Kabir, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda has ordered a massive deployment of officers across the state to ensure a safe and hitch-free celebration.
In a statement released on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, said the Command is working closely with other security agencies including the Military, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), to safeguard lives and property during the two-day celebration scheduled for Friday, June 6 to Saturday, June 7, 2025.
“The Command is fully prepared to provide adequate security and ensure free flow of traffic throughout the state,” the CP stated. “We will not allow any room for criminal elements such as kidnappers, armed robbers, and cultists to disrupt the peace.”
According to the statement, CP Abaniwonda has directed the deployment of officers from Area Commands, Tactical Formations, and Divisional Headquarters to strategic locations and all Muslim prayer grounds. Divisional Police Officers have also been instructed to intensify raids on criminal hideouts and black spots within their jurisdictions.
The CP warned mischief makers to steer clear of criminal activities during the festive period, saying, “The Command will deal decisively with anybody found wanting.”
To maintain public order and safety, the police will regulate vehicular and pedestrian movement around major prayer grounds. Residents are encouraged to cooperate with security personnel and comply with all safety guidelines.
On behalf of the officers and men of the Delta State Police Command, CP Abaniwonda extended warm wishes to Muslim faithful across the state. “We wish all our Muslim brothers and sisters a peaceful and joyous Eid-el-Kabir celebration,” he added.
The Police Command emphasized its unwavering commitment to protecting the lives and property of all Deltans during the festivities and beyond.
