Traders at the Sapele Ultra Modern Market were filled with joy and gratitude as popular philanthropist and business tycoon, Mr. Eruvwu Sunano, made a heartfelt visit to the market with a truckload of food items and cash gifts.
Sunano, who is the Chief Executive Officer of the Sunano Foundation, led a team of volunteers to the bustling market where he personally supervised the distribution of essential items to hundreds of traders.
The outreach, which was organized in collaboration with the market’s administrative officers, was aimed at supporting underprivileged market traders struggling under the weight of rising living costs.
In his address, Mr. Sunano shared an emotional account of his childhood struggles, revealing how he once hawked goods on the streets of Sapele to support his family. He said the hardship he faced growing up has become the foundation of his passion to help others.
“I was once in your shoes. I hawked on these same streets, and I know what it means to sleep hungry. My success today is a testimony of grace and hard work, and it has given me the opportunity to reach out to others who are still going through what I once went through,” he told the cheering traders.
Speaking further, Sunano explained that the outreach is part of the ongoing efforts of his charitable initiative – Help the Needy, under the Sunano Foundation. He noted that the foundation is committed to addressing hunger and poverty in local communities, especially in Delta State.
“Many families are finding it hard to feed. We must all do what we can to support the vulnerable among us. At the Sunano Foundation., we are guided by the values of compassion and social justice, and we will not stop until lives are touched and changed for the better,” he added.
The food distribution exercise was met with excitement, with traders forming an orderly queue to receive their packages. Some beneficiaries, overwhelmed with emotions, shed tears of joy as they received food items and cash gifts.
Mrs. Mabel Ogbemi, a trader who benefited from the exercise, described the gesture as a divine intervention. “This is God answering our prayers through Mr. Sunano. May God continue to bless him,” she said.
The market leadership also expressed appreciation, describing Mr. Sunano as a light of hope in a time of hardship. They appealed for more philanthropists to emulate his selfless service to humanity.
The outreach ended with chants of praise and spontaneous dancing as traders celebrated what many described as a day of unexpected blessings.
