Controversial and self-acclaimed relationship expert, Blessing CEO, has said that she recently praised another controversial social media personality, Martins Otse, aka Verydarkman, whom she had often criticised in the past, because of his “selfless nature”.
Speaking in an interview with Saturday Beats, she said, “Let’s say I was at odds with VDM before, but you know that point where you criticise someone genuinely, hoping they’ll improve? That’s how it was. I believe the essence of criticism is to inspire growth. And if someone you’ve criticised starts doing better, I think it’s only fair to applaud them, and that’s what I did. Since VDM came out of EFCC custody, I’ve noticed a change in him.”
According to her, her observation wasn’t based on just one moment but on a pattern she began to notice, especially after his recent trip to Benue to commiserate with survivors of a massacre in the Yelwata area of the state.
She added that he had become more empathetic and humane, and was not as “aggressive or abusive as before
Describing VDM as a male version of herself, she also stated, “Funnily enough, VDM is like a male version of me. Controversial, blunt and intense. When we started out, we wore our boldness like a badge. But with time, you begin to realise that in being blunt, you might be hurting people. And it’s shocking to hear that you’ve hurt people without even realising it.
“With growth comes reflection. Many people who dislike me have never met me. The issue is mostly about what I’ve said and how they perceive me. So when I watched VDM recently, I thought to myself, ‘Is this really VDM?’ I could’ve just kept that thought to myself, but I decided to speak up.”
Reflecting on how her recent video praising VDM might have affected him, she added, “He knows it meant something, no matter how much he pretends. “Imagine your biggest critic commending you; that’s bound to make you feel seen, and push you to do more. That’s what we want from VDM. It’s not hate.”
