
A total sum of N51.6m in cash, sponsorship and projects are up for grabs in the Maltina Teacher of the Year Competition for the year 2025.
This was brought to the fore when the Nigerian Breweries-Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund launched the call for entries for the 11th edition of the competition in Lagos.
This year’s competition will see the overall winner receive a trophy, a cash prize of N10m, a capacity development training opportunity abroad and a school infrastructure project worth N30m in his or her school.
Corporate Affairs Director, NB Plc, Uzodinma Odenigbo, who made this known, added that the first runner-up will receive a trophy and a total cash prize of N5m, while the second runner-up gets a trophy and a total sum of N3m.
Also, all state champions will receive recognition plaques and a cash prize of N1m each.
He stated that secondary school teachers in both public and private schools are eligible to participate in the competition.
“This competition is a transformative platform that aligns with Nigeria Breweries’ commitment to Sustainable Development Goal 4 – Quality Education. This initiative has created powerful ripple effects across schools and communities through the inspiring journeys of past winners,” Odenigbo said.
Entries are open from June 24 to August 22, with eligible teachers expected to visit the dedicated Maltina Teacher of the Year website to complete the entry form online.
Odenigbo, who also represented the Managing Director, Nigerian Breweries Plc, Hans Essaadi, reiterated the commitment of the company to honouring the invaluable contributions of teachers.
He hailed the collaboration of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria, and the All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools with the NB-Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund for the past 10 editions of the competition.
Essaadi said, “Today, we begin another chapter in this story, a celebration of the men and women who give so much of themselves to nurture the minds and shape the future of the next generation. We are encouraged by how the competition continues to grow – from the number of entries we receive each year, to the increasing involvement of partner organisations and even greater government engagement. It tells us one thing: our collective effort to raise the profile of teachers in Nigeria is working.”
Also speaking, Marketing Director, NB Plc, Sarah Agha, restated Maltina’s commitment to encouraging teachers in their task of moulding lives.

Representatives of the NUT, TRCN, and ANCOPSS commended the Nigerian Breweries-Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust for complementing the cause of advancing educational development in Nigeria.
The Maltina Teacher of the Year competition, established in 2015 and funded through the Nigerian Breweries-Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund, was set up in 1994 to facilitate an active contribution to the development of the education sector in Nigeria in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4.
