
As part of efforts to enhance the knowledge base and capacity of the workforce in Delta State civil service, the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Community Support Services, and Girl-Child Development has commenced an in-house capacity building workshop for its staffers.
The workshop which took place today in Asaba, the state capital, was titled: Memo Writing Techniques.
In his opening remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Wilson Chukwuka, emphasized the importance of taking advantage of the training to skill up with a view for better service delivery of the Ministry’s core mandate.
He further disclosed that the in-house training aligned with the vision of the Head of Service (HoS), Dr. Mininim Oseji which is also key in the implementation of the State government’s M.O.R.E. agenda mantra.
“This in-house training is crucial for our personal development,” Mr. Chukwuka assured.
“In-house training is key in our quest for personal development. Recently the Head of Service (HoS) started atresing on the need for in-house training across all MDAs.
“This is the first, and certainly not going to be the last, as we are going to engage in a series of other training sessions. The Accounts department is preparing to train us on the issue of ‘voucher retirement,’ ” he stated.
The Permanent Secretary tasked the participants to concentrate fully so that they can apply the lessons learned to their daily office routine.
The in-house resource person, Mr. Lucky Nkemachor, the Director of Planning Research and Statistics, highlighted the evolution of memo writing in the State civil service. “In the past, memo writing was often turgid.
“However, the concept of memo writing is to communicate and elicit understanding, and nowadays, it’s written in everyday language for easy comprehension,” he submitted.
The training brought together key management staff of the Ministry such as the Director of Humanitarian Affairs, Sir Stanley Rapu, Director of Administration, Mrs. Gloria Chokor, Director of Account; Mrs. Florence Numupeide, Director of Community Support Services Mrs.Thecla Agamah, and the entire members of staff of the ministry.
