The Delta State Contributory Health Commission (DSCHC), on Monday, flagged off the enrollment of 150 persons into the Indigent Enrollee Adoption Initiative (IEAI)—a transformative healthcare program designed to ensure that vulnerable and indigent residents gain access to quality medical care.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony in Uvwie, the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the DSCHC, Dr. Isaac Akpoveta, described the initiative as one that goes beyond mere medical assistance, stressing that “it is about restoring dignity, preventing avoidable suffering, and ensuring that no child or adult in Delta State is left behind when it comes to healthcare.”
He noted that the enrollment of 150 residents was made possible through the sponsorship of Dr. Patrick Ighomrore, a respected philanthropist and advocate of community development.
Dr. Akpoveta emphasized that “since inception, the state health scheme has enrolled over 2.6 million people,” reflecting the growing confidence of the public in the state’s healthcare delivery model. He praised Dr. Ighomrore as a “great son of globalism” and “a man of the people,” whose generosity exemplifies the spirit of philanthropy as an investment in humanity. He added that “when generosity is directed toward providing health insurance for the vulnerable, it becomes the ultimate act of compassion and solidarity,” and called on Deltans both at home and abroad to support the initiative and “create a ripple effect of positive change.”
In his remarks, Dr. Patrick Ighomrore reaffirmed his commitment to building a fairer and healthier society, stating that “the initiative represents my contribution to a vision of a healthier Uvwie, where access to medical care is not a privilege for the few but a right for all.” He encouraged other well-meaning individuals, particularly in the private sector and diaspora, to support similar interventions, adding that “development is most meaningful when it touches real lives.” He also commended the Delta State Government for its “people-focused vision and consistent investment in the welfare of its citizens.”
Also speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Delta State Internal Revenue Service, Hon. Solomon Ighrakpata, applauded the DSCHC leadership for its “transparency and tireless efforts in ensuring that all Deltans, regardless of status, benefit from accessible and quality healthcare services.”
