A coalition of youth leaders under the Northern Ethnic Youth Group Assembly has rejected former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal’s claim that the North has adopted the Action Democratic Congress ahead of the 2027 general elections, describing it as a “shameless fabrication” and “a desperate political gambit.”
In a statement signed by the group’s spokesperson, Ibrahim Dan-Musa, and issued on Sunday, NEYGA described the recent declaration in Abuja as misleading and unrepresentative of the region.
“The North is not a political pawn to be manipulated by a select few.
“Any decision of this magnitude must involve broad-based consultations with traditional rulers, youth leaders, and stakeholders—not a clandestine meeting of political jobbers,” Dan-Musa said.
The group alleged that the gathering was nothing more than “a gathering of Atiku loyalists masquerading as Northern representatives,” and warned Nigerians to disregard what it called “a fraudulent and undemocratic proclamation.”
NEYGA further accused Babachir Lawal and his associates of “exploiting Northern unity for personal vendettas,” adding that “many now posing as regional champions had failed the North woefully while in power.”
“We know the true patriots from the opportunists.
“The North will not be railroaded into another political misadventure by those who see our region as a mere stepping stone to power,” the statement added.
The group also cautioned Northerners to be wary of “political merchants peddling false consensus,” vowing to resist any attempt to hijack the region’s democratic will.
Concluding its statement with a warning, NEYGA declared,”The North is awake, and we will not be fooled again.”
