Graduating students of Essi College One, Warri, have been charged to remain good ambassadors of the school and uphold the values of discipline, academic excellence, and moral integrity as they progress into the next phase of their lives.
The advice was given by the Principal of the school, Mr. Michael Erihmedafe, during the 2025 graduation and prize-giving ceremony held at the school premises to honour outstanding students in both academics and character.
The ceremony was marked by a series of inspiring speeches, awards, and lively displays of talent, with parents, teachers, alumni, and invited dignitaries in attendance. The event also celebrated Miss Success Omoniwera, a senior secondary school student, who emerged as the overall best graduating student of the year.
In his welcome address, Mr. Erihmedafe reminded the graduating class of the core values instilled in them throughout their time at Essi College One. He urged them to be cautious of peer influence, especially as they enter higher institutions and the wider society.
The society youre stepping into is full of distractions and temptations. But you have been equipped with the right foundation. Do not compromise your future by engaging in acts that may ruin your academic and career prospects, the principal cautioned.
He further encouraged all students to take their studies seriously, adding that “success comes through hard work, consistency, and discipline.”
Delivering the keynote speech, Guest Speaker Engr. Melissa Okoh, Founder of the Young Builders Conference, emphasized the importance of education as a pathway to a successful future. She debunked the growing notion among some youths that school is a scam, describing such thinking as misleading.
Education remains the surest ladder to growth and impact. Never let anyone convince you otherwise, she said. Engr. Okoh also advised parents to support their childrens dreams without imposing specific career paths on them, encouraging a more nurturing and guiding role in their academic journeys.
Other dignitaries at the event, including Prof. Israel Abido, Comrade Aletile Harrison, and Pastor Keston Ighodaro, congratulated the graduating students and urged them to stay focused, avoid distractions, and model their lives after successful Nigerians who have made positive contributions in their various fields.
In a heartfelt speech, Head Girl Miss Sarah Ojabine, speaking on behalf of the graduating class, thanked the school management for their dedication in building students both academically and morally. She assured that they would make the school and their families proud as they continue their educational pursuits.
The high point of the event was the presentation of awards to outstanding students, with Miss Success Omoniwera receiving the award for Best Overall Student in the Senior Secondary category. Other students were also recognized for excellence in individual subjects and moral conduct.
The ceremony ended on a joyful note, with students, teachers, and parents celebrating the achievements of the graduating class in an atmosphere filled with hope, pride, and optimism.
