The Chairman of the Delta State Internal Revenue Service (DSIRS), Hon. Chief Solomon Ighrakpata has inaugurated four strategic committees tasked with reviewing the Nigeria Tax Administration Act, 2025, and overhauling internal policies and processes to enhance the operational efficiency of the Service for optimal revenue generation.
Speaking during the inauguration ceremony held at the Service’s headquarters in Warri, Ighrakpata emphasized the urgency of setting up the committees in light of the impending implementation of the Nigeria Tax Administration Act, 2025, which would come into effect on January 1, 2026.
The Committees Include Committee on the New Tax Acts; Committee on Tax Awareness campaign; Committee for the Road Map on Revenue Generation, and the Committee on Central Billing System for MDAs (CMBS)
He stressed the need for the Service to be proactive and align its operations with the provisions of the new Act, stating: “It has become imperative to urgently set up these committees to review the Nigeria Tax Act, 2025. We cannot afford to be caught unprepared when the new tax laws become operational.”
Ighrakpata charged members of the committees to bring innovation, professionalism and creativity to the assignment, urging them to develop actionable strategies that would strengthen the state’s tax system.
“You must demonstrate commitment, integrity, and confidentiality in the discharge of your duties. Work together in unity, and steer clear of anything that may cause disunity or tarnish the image of the Service,” he admonished.
The Revenue Service boss disclosed that the establishment of the committees was a direct outcome of the Executive Training recently held in Lagos, where stakeholders resolved that a comprehensive review of the Service’s policies, processes, and procedures was necessary in view of the newly approved Nigeria Tax Act, 2025, which repeals the Personal Income Tax Act of 2011 (as amended).
“These committees are mandated to carry out a critical review of the existing policies, processes, and procedures of the Service to promote greater efficiency, improved compliance, and necessary reforms. They are expected to complete and submit their reports on or before October 28, 2025,” Ighrakpata stated.
He commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration for its achievements in governance and infrastructural development, adding that the Service must reciprocate by delivering on its core mandate to drive the economic growth of Delta State.
“With the government’s huge investments in infrastructure and development, it is incumbent on us as a revenue agency to ensure that we match this commitment by boosting our revenue collection capacity for the overall progress of the state,” he concluded.
