The Chairman of the Delta State Internal Revenue Service, Hon Solomon Ighrakpata has inaugurated four crucial Committees to review the policies and processes of the Service to align with the newly promulgated Nigerian Tax Acts, in order to enhance operational efficiency of the Service for optimal revenue collection.
According to Ighrakpata, the initiative became imperative after the Executive Training carried out recently in Lagos, where it was agreed that, there should be an extensive review of the policies and processes of the Service and the newly promulgated Nigerian Tax Acts 2025, which will come into force on January 1st, 2026.
The Committees inaugurated included the Committee on the New Tax Acts, headed by Prof Frank Nwogu; Committee on Tax Awareness Campaign, headed by Mr. Collins Iwebunor; Committee on the Central Billing System for MDAs, headed by Prof Frank Nwogu, and the Committee for the Road Map on Revenue Generation, also headed by Prof Frank Nwogu.
Ighrakpata called on the Committees to carry out a critical and comprehensive review of the policies, processes and procedures of the Service in order to promote efficiency, compliance and the necessary reforms to meet changes in the fiscal landscape of the country in the light of the New Tax Acts.
The Revenue Boss also enjoined the Committees to X-ray the current modus operandi of the Service vis-a-vis the new Tax Acts with a view to identifying the Service’ strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats as well as addressing the attendant issues, which will serve to reposition the Service to operate at optimum capacity.
The seasoned tax administrator clearly stated that the Service cannot afford to be caught napping when the new Tax Acts of Nigeria become operational from 1st January, 2026, even as he enjoined all and especially, members of the Committees, to do their due diligence as enormous responsibilities is on the Service to deliver on its core mandate.
He charged the Committees to come up with innovative ideas on how to create an effective and efficient tax system that hinges on fairness, adequacy, simplicity, transparency and administrative ease, necessary and expedient for the assessment and collection of taxes and levies in the State.
Ighrakpata also charged each member of the newly constituted Committees to, “justify their inclusion in the various Committees by bringing their creativity, professionalism and wealth of experience to bear on the assignment at hand,” adding, “You must show commitment, integrity and confidentiality in the discharge of your duties while shunning any act capable of tarnishing the image of the Service.”
The Committees, Ighrakpata further revealed, have up until the 28th of October, 2025, to complete their assignments and submit the reports of the same.
