The Delta State Government has commiserated with Fish Farmers at the Camp 74, Asaba over the damages caused by floods which submerged their fish farms promising to send accessors to ascertain the extent of damages.
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori made the remarks when he visited the camp to sympathise with the farmers on the devastating effects of the floods on their source of livelihood. The Governor, represented by the Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Barr. Val Arenyeka, expressed the state government’s concern for the well-being of citizens.
Barr. Arenyeka said that the state government would not abandon the farmers, and would do anything within its powers to assist them.
Areyenka described the State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborewori as an Acquaculture and agriculture-loving governor who is pained by their losses.
The commisioner advised the farmers to always follow the Nigeria Meteorological Agency’s (NIMET) for first-hand information on flood alerts, so as to save their investment, since they operate in a flood-prone area.
The agriculture commissioner further urged the farmers to embrace technology, listen to the radio to be abreast with weather forecasts, so as to avoid losses and save the government avoidable costs.
Meanwhile he appreciated the Camp 74 Fish Farmers for engaging tirelessly in Acqua-culture, he encouraged them not relent due to the disaster that ravaged their Camp because they are indeed providing food for Delta State and the Nation at large.
Speaking on behalf of the Fish Farmers, the Vice Chairman of the Camp 74 Fish Farm, Mr Innocent Afareha applauded the State Government for commiserating with them saying that this has shown them that they are important to the Governor. Meanwhile he promised to adhere to all the advices given to them in order to avert future incidents
