The Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency (DSCTDA), through its Environmental Unit, has embarked on a major evacuation of waste from blocked drainage channels along key roads within the capital territory. Areas covered in the exercise include Summit Road, DBS Road, NTA Road, and other strategic routes.
The operation, which was carried out to improve drainage flow and enhance the aesthetic appeal of the city, has left the cleared roads with a renewed, cleaner look. The DSCTDA emphasized that the exercise is part of its continuous “Secure, Clean, and Green” campaign aimed at safeguarding the environment, preventing flooding, and promoting public health.
Speaking on the development, the Director General of the DSCTDA, Hon. Patrick Ukah, commended the Environmental Unit for its prompt intervention and called on residents to take ownership of the city’s cleanliness.
He said what the Agency has done is not just about clearing drains but about protecting lives, properties, and the image of the capital city. A clean and well-drained environment reduces flooding risks, prevents disease outbreaks, and improves the quality of life for everyone. He stressed that the government cannot do it alone and that it is the collective responsibility of all residents to ensure the capital territory remains secure, clean, and green. Ukah urged residents to stop indiscriminate dumping of refuse, especially into drains, and to comply with sanitation guidelines.
The DG further assured that the Agency will sustain regular desilting of drains, monitoring of waste disposal, and public sensitization to promote lasting environmental discipline across the territory.
