The Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, on Tuesday, presented cheques of ₦37,663,936 to the families of 35 police officers who died while in active service.
The presentation, held in Asaba, was carried out on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, under the IGP Family Welfare Scheme and Group Life Assurance programme.
Speaking during the ceremony, CP Abaniwonda commended the selfless service and sacrifices of the deceased officers, noting that their contributions to the Nigeria Police Force and the nation will not be forgotten. He stressed that the welfare of families of both serving and late officers remains a priority for the IGP.
“The cheques we are presenting today are a testament to the Force’s commitment to supporting the families left behind. Though their loved ones are gone, the Nigeria Police Force remembers their service and sacrifice,” the CP said.
One of the beneficiaries, Miss Chidinma Paul, expressed gratitude to the IGP for the financial support, assuring that the funds would be put to good use.
The initiative is part of the ongoing efforts of the Nigeria Police Force to provide financial relief and moral support to the families of officers who paid the ultimate price in the line of duty.
