The Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency (DSCTDA) has intensified its environmental sanitation efforts at Summit Junction, Asaba, with multiple rounds of drainage and road cleaning carried out within the past week.
On Wednesday, 6th August 2025, the Agency’s Environmental Unit embarked on the cleaning of one side of the Summit drains and adjoining road. This was followed by another round of cleaning and waste evacuation on the morning of Friday, 8th August 2025, on the same side of the junction. Later that Friday evening, the team moved to the other side of the drains, including the road frontage of the plaza, to ensure thorough desilting and evacuation.
In continuation of these efforts, the same part of the Summit Junction drains and road received yet another cleaning today, Tuesday, 12th August 2025. The repeated exercises, according to the Agency, are aimed at ensuring complete removal of silt and debris to improve water flow and prevent flooding.
As part of its enforcement drive, the Agency has also served the two plazas and surrounding business owners at the Summit Junction a 7-day notice to tidy up their surroundings and properly fence their compounds in line with environmental regulations.
Speaking on the ongoing operations, the Director General of DSCTDA, Hon. Patrick Ukah said the Summit Junction is a key gateway into the capital territory, and the Agency would not relent until it reflects the high environmental standards desired for Asaba. He stressed that repeated clean-ups are necessary because drains in commercial areas get clogged faster, and assured that the Agency is committed to ensuring a cleaner, safer, and flood-free capital territory.
The Head of Environment, Mr. Isaac Nwosu, who supervised the operations, said cleaning drains is not a one-time activity, especially in high-traffic areas like Summit Junction. He explained that the Agency is returning repeatedly to remove debris that reaccumulates and emphasized that business owners and property owners are expected to take responsibility for their surroundings.
The DSCTDA has reiterated its “Secure, Clean and Green” campaign and urged residents, traders, and motorists to cooperate fully with its environmental laws to sustain a healthy and appealing capital territory.
