
Stakeholders in the Pensions Departments of Delta State Civil Service have been enjoined to regularly embark on Public Enlightenment Campaign on pension matters through social media and other Electronic Platforms.
The Head of Service of Delta State Dr ( Mrs) Mininim Oseji gave the advice at an enlarged in-house Capacity Building training program for officers in the office of the Head of Service and Directorate of Establishments and Pensions held on the 28th of August,2025 at the conference hall of the Office of the Head of Service, Asaba.
Suggesting that collaboration was important for both bureau for state and local government pensions and the Pensions Department in the Directorate of Establishments and Pensions, the Head of Service directed that feedback mechanisms should be instituted to tackle the challenges that have bedeviled the Contributory Pensions scheme since its inception.
She encouraged that monitoring and evaluation should be initiated to enhance the feedback mechanisms in pension processes.
She emphasized that awareness must be created for the enlightenment of Civil Servants in preparation for their Pensions at retirement.
The workshop which featured topics such as “Retirement of Imprests In The Public Service” and “Sensitization on the New Contributory Pensions Scheme” had Mr Bright Agbogun and Mrs Gladys Eta presenting papers on Retirement of imprest in the Public Service. They explained that imprests were financial sums advanced to Public Officers to be used to manage small transactions, to reduce administrative burdens and to control funds in their offices.
They revealed that imprests must be retired at a stipulated time for transparency and accountability purposes and financial regulations in government transactions.
Speaking on the new Contributory Pensions Scheme, the director of pensions, Mr Godfrey Ofueneme advised that every employee must do a biometric registration with an appointed Pension Fund Administrator (PFA), monitor their contributions and regularly demand their statement of account from their respective PFA’s in Delta State.
Permanent Secretary, Office of the Head of Service, Mr Maxwell Awuse, Former Functioning Permanent Secretary, Mr. D.T Oghoro and some Directors were present at the training.
